work work

Twelve hours of work at The Highlander.
- Upgrade file server from Fedora Core 3 to 4
- Move file server to Production room and rewired cat cables
- Reinstall, configure, and tweak Writer machine
-- Ghost the drive to other machines that need a fresh reformat

And we didn't even finish all the machines, reconfigure Production machines, or finish up Webmail stuff.

To keep yourself sane, you gotta be cynical and make fun of other people, or your userbase. The only way.

just not too cynical

Just don't be too cynical. It may help you deal with the stress of work in the short term, but its not good. It starts with work, but before too long you find yourself being cynical about things outside of work. Things there is no reason to cynical about.
I was a really cynical person when I worked at ISD, and I realize now it cost me. Leaving that damn company was probably one of the best things I have done for myself. I made it a point to try to not be cynical at my current job, instead I remember to leave work at work. Once 6 o'clock comes around I stop thinking about work, and I never take work home with me. Sure I may still be cynical from time to time (old habits die hard), but I would like to think I am far less cynical now, then I was when I worked at ISD.
So just be careful when it comes to being cynical. You might want to try (as Michael put it) "the Black F@#king Magic" approach to helping people that don't understand computers as well as you do. Basically, you come in, work your "Black F@#king Magic" and get things fixed. Its a pretty good approach, you just have to be careful that people don't start taking advantage of you. Explain to them when you help them, that its a one time thing, or that they paid for support when they bought that Dell, they should get their money's worth from Dell, and not you.

Oh, and don't forget karma... it'll get ya!!!

Is everything all right? Missed you yesterday. =( Don't worry about it, but I just wanted to make sure everything is ok. ^_^

Hiya Christine! Hope things aren't TOO brutal for ya. I went to Scotland and saw lots of kilts and bagpipes and Scottish people. We didn't get to go to the Highlands because it was too far away (I was extremely sad about this, I totally wanted to see Loch Ness ;__:), but I did eat haggis and I thought of you =).
